About Plan International
Plan Internationalhas worked in Timor-Leste since 2001, helping children and youth to accesstheir rights to education, health, livelihoods and protection.
Underthe 2012-2017 Country Strategic Plan, Plan InternationalTimor-Leste concentrates its interventions in all four sub-districts inAileu District and the Maubisse and Hatu Builco Sub-Districts of AinaroDistrict. We hope to expand to the other sub-districts of Ainaro before 2017.We have worked in Aileu since 2004 and in Maubisse since 2013.
Over60% of Timor-Leste’s population is under 24 years of age, so involving youngpeople in the development of their nation and supporting them to speak outabout issues that affect them is an important part of our work and is acritical step in Timor-Leste's development process.
Withsuch a young and rapidly growing population and high levels of unemployment, particularly amongst rural youth, working with young people to increase theirskills and employment opportunities is a key part of PlanInternational Timor-Leste’s work. Timor-Leste also has high levels ofgender-based violence and poor levels of education, access to water andsanitation and weak hygiene practices.
Ourgoal: Timorese children and youth, particularly those from vulnerablegroups, become increasingly aware of their rights, grow up in families andcommunities that support their development and to become empowered tocontribute to the development of their nation.
Toachieve these goals, Plan International Timor-Leste has 6 programmes- Water, Health and Sanitation (WASH), Disaster Risk Management, Education, Youth Empowerment, Child Protection and Women and Girls Participation in Local Governance.
