Have you ever met a little girl who was sugar and spice and everything nice? I did; her name is Sonia. Sonia was a young girl full of life, joy and energy. She lived a life filled with simple pleasures of being a child. Sonia was warm and friendly and made friends everywhere she went. She lived life showing everyone that people were more important than possessions. This is a valuable lesson for all of us to learn. Even as a young child, Sonia was very caring and always willing to share with others. She dearly loved her family friends and pets, but was always also kind to whom ever was in her presence.The story captures Sonia as a child and is written in the present to relate to children today. However, this book may also serve as a literary work to connect to children’s social emotional compass when dealing with the death of a loved-one. The Author’s Message and Dedication go into details about the relationship I had with Sonia and the relationships she had with so many others. This can be used to have delicate yet rich conversations with children regarding their emotions, disposition and overall feelings during their time of loss. The emphasis is in remembering the wonderful and meaningful impact Sonia had on our lives and our future. Her legacy of love, kindness and forgiveness lives on through all she leaves behind. From this children learn that love lives on and we keep those we have lost alive through carrying forward the moral and life lessons they taught us by their example. It also teaches us that while it is alright to cry, feel sad and mourn their loss, we also must celebrate the lives of our loved-ones and as time goes by, we will find joy once more as we remember them with love.I wanted to capture my sister’s whole being in this book. That includes: her personality, her likes and dislikes, her friends, family and events that actually took place in her life. The precious memories and her three year old picture, birthed the story, “Hello, My Name is Sonia.” Those are words I’ve heard her say a million times. This book is a tribute to my dearly beloved sister Sonia Genevieve. May we all share goodwill towards living people and creatures great and small as she did. Live your life with joy like Sonia did.
